UPDATE PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT PROTEST ACTIVITIES EXPECTED NEAR THE VILLAGE AND IN STONE MOUNTAIN PARK
Friday, August 14, 2020
The City of Stone Mountain is anticipating and preparing for at least two (2) opposing groups of protesters whose intentions are to demonstrate at Stone Mountain Park on Saturday, August 15, 2020. Stone Mountain Park has made the decision to close the Park on this day. While the city has little information on what to expect during this time, out of the abundance of caution we are asking the General Public to avoid the City of Stone Mountain, specifically the downtown area, on Saturday, August 15th, 2020, beginning at 4:00 AM until 12:00 AM midnight.
Please be aware that on Saturday:
- MARTA bus services will be suspended for transit within the City.
- Citizens, businesses, and stakeholders are encouraged to refrain from travel and activities within the downtown area of the City.
- Citizens and visitors are encouraged not to venture nearby the affected areas and do not proceed into or through demonstrations. DO NOT confront the protesters.
- If there is violence, property damage or credible threat, contact the police (911) immediately.
