Mayor and Council Make Appointment to Vacant Council Seat


At the March 5, 2019 Regular Voting Meeting of the City of Stone Mountain Mayor and Council, the City Council voted unanimously for the appointment of Bernard Waller, of 5496 E. Mountain Street, to fill the unexpired term of former Councilman Steve Wells – Post 2. The Council received multiple letters of interest and is grateful to all who showed an interest in the position.

The City Charter provides for the qualifications for office for the positions of mayor and council. 

Stone Mountain Charter, Article II. Government Structure, Section 2.11.  City councilmembers; terms and qualifications for office provides that:

“No person shall be eligible to serve as mayor or councilmember unless he or she shall have been a resident of this city for 12 months immediately preceding the election of mayor or councilmembers; each such person shall continue to reside within the city during said period of service and shall be registered and qualified to vote in municipal elections of this city”.

Mr. Waller, and all who expressed and submitted written interest in the position, met these requirements. 

Mr. Waller will be officially sworn in to his position by Mayor Patricia Wheeler, prior to the start of the Council Work Session to be held on March 19, 2019.
