On September 18, 2006 the Mayor and City Council adopted a resolution to create the Downtown Development Authority of the City of Stone Mountain (Downtown Development Authority Law). The mission of this authority is to promote the development/redevelopment and economic viability of the downtown area. The activities of the DDA include marketing, and implementing programs that promote, enhance, and improve the downtown area. The DDA governing body is made up of seven (7) board members appointed by the Mayor and City Council. One board member selected by the board serves as the Chairman of the Authority. The DDA has two paid staff members, the Executive Director and Main Street Manager, who assist in the implementation of Board initiatives. The DDA meets for their work session on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 PM and their voting meeting on the fourth Monday of each month at 6:30 PM, both meetings are held at City Hall.

The City of Stone Mountain is an accredited Classic Main Street Program through the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. The Main Street 4-Point Approach is administered by the DDA. More information about the Georgia Main Street program can be found here.
